Dorothy Married Willie

He’s never home.  I just don’t think we’re connecting like we used to.

I like to travel.  She’s not interested in the night life.  She’s a homebody.  I’m on the road a lot.

Can you tell me more about how you two fell in love, how it was at first?

Oh my, it was grand! He’s tall and thin, kind of scruffy and gangly, reminded me of an old friend…We used to dance!  I thought he was brave, smart, the biggest heart, but, well, things have changed…..I just wish….

Go on.

He was there at first, but, well, there was the drinking, the smoking, (choking up)  the women…..(sobbing now)…

Willie?

(ashamed) There were all the girls I’d loved before, but you…you were always on my mind… (to the therapist, brightening):  She’s a good hearted woman.

Perhaps there is one request you could make of each other, let’s explore that.  Dorothy, do you want to go first?

(wiping tears)  Sure, well… all these lonely nights...  If you could see what’s going through my mind, Willie. If you could be home more. There’s no place like it!  Really! You’ll see!  We can go for long walks, do those things we used to dream about, maybe fix up the house,  grow a garden, get some of the old magic back...

Willie? What do you think?  Is that something you might like to try?

Pardon me, could you repeat that? I just.. I let my mind wander.

I’m sorry the hour’s up.  It’s time to stop for today. (standing, smiling)  I’ll see you both next week.

Today's NaPoWriMo prompt was to pair unlikely couples.  I may have taken this too literally.
My apologies and credits to Willie Nelson.  These are the song titles I borrowed: "Always on my Mind,"  "Ashamed," "Good Hearted Woman," "I Let My Mind Wander," "If You Could See What’s Going Through My Mind," "Night Life," "On the Road Again," "These Lonely Nights," and "To All the Girls I've Loved Before."
